Daniel Ortega chose his metaphor carefully. In announcing that Nicaragua would hold no further elections, the 79-year-old president told his National Assembly he would work with them to pass new laws to "build a wall" against the opposition . Not a barrier. Not a safeguard. A wall—the language of permanent separation, of irreversible division, of keeping enemies out forever.
